Nutritious Snack Ideas

Research tells us that children learn best when they are being fed nutritious meals throughout the day. It is our concern, here in Union City, that our children are equipped to follow healthy and active lives. We know all children enjoy chocolate, candy, chips, soda, candy etc…. However, it is up to us as guardians and caregivers to ensure that nutritious snacks are also given to our children on a daily basis. Here are some healthy and yummy snacks your children can have both at home and in school…

  • Sliced apples with peanut butter
  • Gogurts (yogurt sips)
  • Apple sauce
  • Banana and peanut butter sandwiches
  • Cheese and crackers
  • Raisins and apples
  • Graham crackers and raisins
  • Cheese cubes on a toothpick
  • Yogurt (children’s brands such as Trix and Danimals are most enjoyed)
  • Dry cheerios (avoid more sugary cereals like Trix, Frosted Flakes etc.)
  • Grapes
  • Assorted fruit salad
  • Pudding
  • Yogurt shakes
  • Fruit kabobs (fruit chunks on a stick)
  • Cottage cheese and fruit
  • Cream cheese and jelly on crackers
  • Jell-O
  • Graham cracker peanut butter sandwiches
**NOTE: Be creative! Children love color and characters! You can mix pretzels with raisons or cheerios to change the flavor. They will eat fruit if it is cut up and there is variety like in a salad or fruit kabob. They also enjoy silly faces. When making graham crackers and peanut butter, be sure to first spread peanut butter then add raisins for eyes and a line of raisins for the mouth. Of course time is precious and we may not always have time to be so creative but children will appreciate variety and will eat different foods if they are given the opportunity.
